Where do an Order's compliance requirements come from?

Requirements come from Order templates pre-configured for the Order's origin country and commodity (HS code), or you add them.

The compliance requirements on an Order come from one of two places. If requirements are pre-configured for the Order's origin country and commodity (HS code), they appear automatically, through an Order template whose matching criteria fit the Order. If not, you add them yourself. Either way, requirements are a starting point: you decide whether they fit your circumstances.

Pre-configured requirements from Order templates

Pre-configured requirements come from Order templates. An Order template sets matching criteria, such as origin countries, destination countries, product templates, GPC codes and HS codes, and the Evidence Templates to require. When an Order that matches the criteria is created, those Evidence Templates are added to it as requirements and appear on its Compliance tab.

  • Order templates can be set up for your ecosystem, for example a pre-configured report for a country and commodity, or by your own organisation.

  • On the Order templates list (Order Compliance > Order Templates), the Applies to, Owner and Visibility columns show who each template applies to and who owns it.

Requirements you add yourself

If no requirements are pre-configured for the Order, or you want more, add them on the Order. On the Compliance tab, click Edit on Order compliance requirements; or, when you create an Order on the full form, click Create order and add requirements. You can add a traceability requirement and evidence requirements based on the Evidence Templates you can use.

What a requirement contains

Each evidence requirement is based on an Evidence Template. An Evidence Template used on Orders can include supporting requirements, which the Compliance tab shows as:

  • numbered groups, for example 01 Deforestation or 05 Harvest;

  • individual checks attached to the Order's Locations, participants or products, or to the Order itself, such as a document on the Order;

  • an Optional badge on checks that can be left unmet;

  • a count for each check, for example 1 out of 2 participants complete.

You decide whether they fit

Pre-configured requirements are a starting point, not a statement of what any regulation requires for your Order. Check them against your own circumstances. You can change the requirements on one Order, create your own Order templates and Evidence Templates, or ask the OriginsNext support team for a change.

Important: OriginsNext collates the data you choose to record and lets you share it. It does not advise on what any regulation requires, and requirement statuses describe the platform's own checks.

To change requirements or ask for a change, see How do I change the requirements on an Order, or ask for a change?
