How do I run a deforestation assessment on an Order?

Start a deforestation assessment from a location's requirement on the Order's Compliance tab. It needs the location's main boundary.

A deforestation assessment is Evidence that OriginsNext generates for a Location, rather than a document you upload. If an Order's requirements include a deforestation requirement for a location, you start the assessment from the Order's Compliance tab, and the assessment runs on the location's main boundary. This article explains how to start a deforestation assessment and where to find the result.

Before you start: the location needs a main boundary

A deforestation assessment needs the location's main boundary. If the location has no boundary yet, the requirement shows "This location needs a main boundary before the assessment can run." Add the boundary on the location first: open the location's details, click Manage boundaries and + Add boundary, and choose Main boundary as the Boundary type. You can also upload it when you create the location.

Start the deforestation assessment

To start a deforestation assessment on an Order:

  1. Open the Order and go to the Compliance tab.

  2. Find the deforestation requirement for the location. In an EUDR report it sits in the deforestation group, for example 01 Deforestation.

  3. Click Start assessment.

  4. While the assessment runs, the requirement shows Assessment in progress. When it finishes, the result is saved as Evidence for that location on the Order.

If the assessment cannot complete

If a deforestation assessment cannot complete, the requirement shows a message and a Retry assessment button. For example, "The assessment could not be completed. Review the location boundary and try again." Check the location's boundary, then click Retry assessment. If it still does not complete, contact the OriginsNext support team.

Where the result appears

The result of a deforestation assessment opens as Evidence. Open it from the requirement on the Order's Compliance tab to see its details, which include an Assessment summary, the Assessment period, a chart and a map. If you had already generated the Order's report, regenerate it so the report reflects the new Evidence.

Important: OriginsNext records the deforestation assessment as Evidence on the Order. It is not a compliance verdict, and how you use it in your due diligence is your decision.
