To review one coral specimen, open it from the Products List in OriginsNext. A tagged coral is a Product, and its record holds everything recorded about it: where it came from, what generation it is, every event in its life, the specimens it came from or produced, and the permits and licences attached to it. This article covers that review for a regulator using the Australian Wildlife Traceability System (AWTS).
Find the specimen
Go to Product Traceability > Products and find the specimen in one of these ways:
By tag ID: type the tag ID into the search box. A tagged specimen's Product ID is its tag ID, written with the prefix of the tag type: RFID. for an RFID tag, QRID. for a QR code, or VID. for a manually entered Visual ID. For example, RFID.99910231923102931.
By fisher or species: the search box also matches Product Template, Current Owner, Current Custodian, Current Location and Origin Location, so you can type a fisher's name or a species name and pick the specimen from the results.
From the fisher's record: open the fisher from Ecosystem Registries > Participants and use their Products tab.
Click the row to open the specimen. It opens on the Overview tab.
Note: If you are inspecting coral in person, you can scan its tag with the AWTS mobile app instead, using View Coral on the Home screen.
For scanning during an inspection, see How do I view coral details by scanning a tag?
Read the Overview
The Overview tab is the specimen's summary. For a coral specimen it shows the scientific name, CITES Appendix, generation, country of origin, harvest trip dates, and measurements such as length and height, along with any photos captured for the specimen. It also shows these cards:
Card | What it shows |
Product Card | The specimen's unique ID, current owner and current location. |
Product Transformation Summary | The lineage around this specimen: the parent it came from and any offspring produced from it. Click the expand icon for the full chart. |
Locations Card | A geospatial timeline of everywhere the specimen has been. |
Ownership History | Prior and current owners of the specimen. |
Data Series Card | Graphs of measured data captured over the specimen's life, such as weight, length or height. It only appears if such data exists and you can view it. |
Check the generation and lineage
Generational tracking is how the AWTS distinguishes wild, fragmented and captive-bred coral, so it is usually the first thing to check. The Generation value appears in the Generation column of the Products List and on the specimen's Overview: P for the original parent, then F1, F2, F3 and so on for successive generations. The Product Transformation Summary on the Overview shows that lineage as a linked graph of parents and offspring; click the expand icon to open the full Product Transformation Chart and hover over a node for its details.
For lineage, see How do I view a Product's generational tracking? For what the source codes mean, see Which coral specimens are in scope?
Follow the journey
The Journey tab is the specimen's full event history: a timeline of everything recorded against it, such as when it was tagged, received, fragged, moved, updated or sold. Sort the timeline Newest first or Oldest first, use Expand all or Collapse all to open every card at once, and read the colour-coded categories: Create, Move, Transform, Update and Destroy.
Expand an event card to see the Template ID, Product ID, Quantity, Sales Order Id, Purchase Order Id and Consignment Id recorded for it, the input specimens that went into it (which you can click through to), and a provenance footer showing the organisation that performed the event, the owner at the time, and the source type, for example "Self Reported".
For the journey timeline, see How do I track the journey of a Product through Events?
Check the permits and licences on the Evidences tab
The Evidences tab lists the permits, licences and certificates that apply to that specimen, including ones inherited from its species (Product Template), its locations and the owning organisation. Each row shows the Evidence ID, Name, Issuer, Awarded To, Type and Validity. Click a row to open the full record and its attached documents. This tab is read only, so you cannot create or change a permit from here.
For a specimen's Evidence, see How do I view the Evidences applied to a Product?
If part of the record is missing
You will not always see every event in a specimen's journey, even when you can open the specimen itself. Seeing a specimen and seeing its events are two separate permissions, and events recorded as Private are only ever visible to the organisation that recorded them. If the Journey shows a message that you do not have permission to view all the events, that is why.
For the full explanation, see Why can't I see all the Events in a Product's journey?
