How do I tag coral from a logbook harvest record?

Tag coral end-to-end from a logbook harvest record: select record, species, variety, scan, weight, photo, register.

When you tag coral that came from a logbook (eFisher) harvest record, you select the record and species to link the specimen to the recorded harvest. This guide walks the full flow from start to Register coral.

Start tagging

On the Home screen, tap the Tag Coral tile to open the Select harvest record screen.

Select a harvest record

On the Select harvest record screen you see a Search by harvest record field and a list of record cards. Each card shows the date (such as 'Today' or '21 Nov 2025'), a location with a pin icon (such as 'North QLD'), and a tagged/total count (such as '10/115'). Tap the record you want.

Select the species

The Select species screen opens with a Search species from logbook field. Each species shows its name (such as 'Acropora spp'), a tagged/total count (such as '0/10 Tagged'), a progress bar and a forward arrow. Tap the species you want to tag.

Optionally select a variety

After choosing a species you can optionally select a coral variety from the list (for example, 'Staghorn Coral - A Grade - Med'). The header updates to show the selected variety. You then continue to the tag attachment method and notes.

Add a tag attachment method and notes

Choose how the tag is attached in the Tag attachment method section:

  • Not specified (selected by default)

  • Subcutaneous

  • Skeleton

  • Frag plug/disk

To add a note, scroll to the Notes section, tap Add notes, and type your note (for example, 'Specimen collected from shallow reef flat, good colour'). Tap Next: Scan coral to continue.

Scan the coral

On the scanning screen, scan one or more specimens with RFID, Camera / QR or Manual Entry; each tag appears in the Scanned items list.

Add weight and photo

After scanning, you can add a weight and photo to each scanned specimen from the scanning screen.

Register coral

When you have scanned every specimen, tap Register coral. The data is saved to the CTS and a confirmation notification tells you the tagging is complete.

What gets saved

Each tagged specimen is saved with a unique identifier (UID) matching the tag ID, the Fisher (your participant organisation), the harvest Location from the logbook record, the Species, the Variety (if you selected one), and a generation value the system sets automatically (for example, 'Wild' or 'W'). You can view the specimen on the web app in the Product List.
