Whenever you tag, receive, frag, breed, update, pack or view coral on the Coral Traceability Solution (CTS) mobile app, you record specimens on a scanning screen. You can scan with one of three methods: RFID, Camera / QR, or Manual Entry (Visual ID). The scanning screen opens with your default method, and you can switch methods at any time.
The three scanning methods
The scanning screen supports three methods, each shown differently:
Method | How you use it | ID prefix |
RFID | Shows an RFID icon and the text 'Press button on your device to scan specimen one by one'. You use a paired Bluetooth RFID scanner. | RFID. |
Camera / QR | Shows a QR code icon with a Scan QR button. You use the device camera. | QRID. |
Manual Entry (Visual ID) | Shows an Enter ID field with a GENERATE button and a blue + (add) button. You type or generate an ID. | VID. |
The scanning screen opens with whichever method is set as your default.
To set your default, see How do I set my default tagging method and location?
Scan with RFID
With a paired Bluetooth RFID scanner, press the scan button on the device near each tagged specimen. Each tag ID appears in the Scanned items list (for example, 'RFID.99910231923102931'), and the header shows the total, such as 'Scanned items - 3 total'.
Scan with Camera / QR
To scan a QR code with the camera:
Tap Scan QR.
Point the camera so the QR code sits inside the viewfinder frame.
When the code is recognised, the camera closes and the ID is added to the list (prefixed 'QRID.').
To scan more specimens, tap Scan QR again for each one.
Enter a tag manually (Visual ID)
To add a tag with Manual Entry:
Tap the Enter ID field and type the tag ID, or tap GENERATE to create one automatically.
Tap the blue + button to add it. The ID appears prefixed 'VID.' and the field clears for the next entry.
Switch method on any scanning screen
To change method mid-scan, tap the method switch icon in the top-right corner of the scanning screen. A bottom sheet lists the three methods:
RFID ID: 'Bluetooth connected'
Camera / QR: 'Scan visual code'
Manual Entry: 'Type ID using keypad'
Tap the method you want and the scanning screen updates. Any items already in the Scanned items list are kept when you switch methods.
Finish scanning
When you have scanned everything, tap the confirm button at the bottom of the screen (for example, Register coral). It becomes active once at least one item is in the Scanned items list. To remove a wrong scan before you finish, tap EDIT next to the list.
