Species and Genus records are shared reference data in OriginsNext. They sit in a taxonomy hierarchy (a Family contains genera, and a Genus contains species), and participants link their product varieties to them. OriginsNext manages these records centrally, on behalf of the relevant managing authorities, so the classifications stay consistent for everyone across the platform. Species and Genus apply to any biological product, not one industry.
Adding or changing a record
Because Species and Genus records are managed centrally on behalf of managing authorities, you cannot add, edit or remove them yourself in the app. If you need a new Species or Genus, or a change to an existing one (for example a correction or a CITES appendix update), contact the OriginsNext support team and they will arrange it.

Linking your product varieties
As a participant, you link your own product varieties to existing Species and Genus records when you create a Product Template. Shared information, such as the CITES appendix, then flows automatically to your variety and to the products created from it.
