What is the CTS mobile app and what do I need to run it?

What the CTS mobile app does, the devices it runs on, and the system requirements you need to use it.

The Coral Traceability Solution (CTS) mobile app is a purpose-built Android app for recording coral traceability events in the field. It records the full life story of every coral specimen, from collection or breeding through fragmentation, growth, sale and transfer between organisations. Each specimen carries a tag; scanning the tag lets you register events against it and pull up its complete history at any time.

What you can do with the app

With the CTS mobile app you can:

  • Tag newly collected wild coral, or coral bought domestically.

  • Fragment (frag) a parent colony into new pieces.

  • Breed coral and register spawning batches and offspring.

  • Update a specimen's growth, or mark it deceased.

  • View a specimen's complete traceability journey.

  • Pack coral against a sales order, and create orders.

  • Replace a lost or damaged tag.

  • Receive coral transferred from another organisation.

Supported devices

The app runs on:

  • Rugged RFID handhelds that have a built-in coral tag reader.

  • Standard Android phones, using a paired Bluetooth RFID reader, the camera (for QR-coded tags), or manual entry of the tag number.

System requirements

To use the app you need:

  • Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or newer.

  • An internet connection (mobile data or Wi-Fi). The app works with OriginsNext in real time, so it needs a connection for almost everything; there is no offline mode.

  • An OriginsNext account with access to your organisation.

  • A way to scan tags: a built-in reader, a paired Bluetooth RFID reader, the device camera (for QR-coded tags), or manual entry.
