How do I add a Location's boundary polygon?

Upload a Location's boundary as a polygon (GeoJSON/JSON or CAR-formatted ZIP) when you create it. The boundary is immutable once the Location is added.

A Location can include its physical boundary as one or more polygons (its mapped shape). Boundaries appear on the Location's map and support requirements such as deforestation-free assessments for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). You add the boundary when you create the Location, in the Polygons section of the Add location form.

Add the boundary polygon

  1. Start adding a Location from Ecosystem Registries > Locations (or inline from an Event, Order, Evidence or Movement form).

  2. In the Polygons section, drag and drop or browse for your boundary file.

  3. Check the preview of the polygons on the map.

  4. Complete the rest of the form and click Save and close.

Detail

Format

GeoJSON or JSON, or a CAR-formatted ZIP.

Size

Up to 20 MB.

Geometry

One or more Polygons or MultiPolygons.

Important: once the Location is added, its boundary polygon cannot be changed. Check the preview carefully before you save.

Note: the boundary is sensitive map data. It is only visible to the Location's owner, the location creator, or when shared via an Order; other organisations that can see the Location see its address but not its boundary.

For the full Add location flow, see How do I add a Location? For who can see a boundary, see Why can't I see another organisation's Location or its boundaries?
