You add a Location to the registry so it can be used in Events, Orders, Evidence and Movements. Every supply-chain event must be tied to a valid, traceable Location, so add one whenever a Location you need is not already in the registry.
Where to add a Location
Add a Location from Ecosystem Registries > Locations using the Add location button, or inline from a form (Event, Order, Evidence or Movement) when a Location search returns no result. You can also add Locations via the API; see How do I access API documentation?
The Add location window first asks for the location's Official Business Identifier to check whether it already exists and prevent duplicates. Choose Search ecosystem to find and link an existing Location, or Create new location to add a new one.
Complete the Add location form
When creating a new Location, fill in:
Location owner: choose My Organisation or Another Organisation (search for and select the owning Participant).
Name and address: the Location name, an optional Parent location, the Address (search or enter manually) and the Timezone.
Identification: add one or more identifiers used to recognise the Location across registries and trading partners (choose an ID Type, such as GLN or CAR, and enter the ID; use + Add another ID for more).
Location type: classify the Location with one or more types (for example Farm, Mine, Mill, Warehouse or Port) to help with reporting and filtering.
Primary contact person (optional): contact name, email and phone. These details may be shown when someone selects the Location.
Click Save and close. The new Location is then available in search fields for immediate use.
Note: if you create a Location for Another Organisation, your organisation is recorded as its creator and that organisation is its owner. Who can then see or edit the Location, and view its boundary, depends on how it relates to each party. See Why can't I see another organisation's Location or its boundaries?
Polygons (optional)
You can upload the Location's boundary as one or more polygons. Drag and drop or browse for a file up to 20 MB, in GeoJSON/JSON or a CAR-formatted ZIP, containing Polygons or MultiPolygons. A preview is shown so you can check the polygons before proceeding.
Important: once the Location is added, its polygons cannot be changed. Check the preview before you save.
